"Who the hell do you think you are?" I spat.
"Hmm. Who do you think I am?" he mimicked me with a smug smile and walked past me. By then I knew that he hasn't changed one bit. That asshole.
"Ugh!" I sigh in frustration and rolled my eyes.
I went to my locker to get the books for my next period. Then this guy walks up to me. He was tall and he looks like he works out. He had piercing blue eyes, short brown hair and deep dimples which I found irresistible. He was quite attractive.
"Hi," he smiles revealing his cute dimples.
"You're the new student right?"
"Yes. Yes I am." I blushed.
"I'm Chris Richardson." he took out his hand and offered me to shake it.
"I'm Hayley. Hayley Williams." I said with a wide grin and shook his hand.
"So how do you like it here so far?"
"I don't know. My first period was, well, kind of a pain in the ass." I laughed.
"Oh. Well don't worry. I'm sure you'll like it here." I can't believe it. My day is actually getting better. I almost even forgot about what happened back in chemistry class with Josh just a few moments ago.
Chris explains that he's part of this club where they check on new students making sure they adjust properly. That was the reason why he was checking on me. He then invited me to the Brick so I could get to know more students who are from this school. I asked what that place was and he said that it's where most students from the school hang out. It's like a party place except without all the booze, people throwing up on people or people making out non-stop. It was right by a lake where the kids swim. It was a place where they hang out, meet up with other people and dance around a campfire. It sounded like a great place to go so I agreed to go there on the weekend. The bell rang telling us to go to our classes.
"So I guess I'll see you around?" he asks.
"Yes. You will."
At lunch I looked for a place to sit at the cafeteria. I saw Josh sitting with some other guys. When he saw me he pointed at me and said "Hey, there she is. What's up?" I ignored him when I remembered what he told the teacher about me and walked past his table.
"Oh, okay. Ignore me now. But remember, I'm still you're lab partner and you're gonna have to work with me whether you like it or not." I still ignored him and kept looking for a free seat.
I finally found one and two other girls were at that table. I asked them if I could sit with them and they told me I could. They said their names were Dakotah and Carrie. I told them my name as well. The blonde one was Dakotah and the one with the curly brown locks was Carrie. They were very nice. They asked me how my first day was so far and I told them that my first period was not so good but I didn't tell why. I then told them about Chris and that he checked on me earlier.
They say Chris was the guy every girl in school would fall for, including them. He's captain of the basketball team and is always at the top of his game. He keeps himself busy they say. Every girl wants him. Every guy wants to be him. He seems like the perfect guy. While Dakotah and Carrie were talking about him they were all dreamy and draped about him. They say they'd do anything to be with Chris. And I agreed. If Chris were to ask me out I'd be the luckiest girl in school.
I also told them that he invited me to go to the Brick. They say that was great and that they go there all the time. They even said that they'd pick me up at my house and take me there with them.
Classes finally ended and I went to the parking lot and walked to my car. On my way I ran into Chris.
"Hi," I grinned.
"Hey. So how are you adjusting?"
"Pretty great, actually. I've made a couple of friends."
"Cool. You're making some progress. But you'll make more friends at the Brick. You'll be there. Right?"
"Yes. Of course." Then I spotted Josh making his way to his car. He was looking at me and before he went in his car he pointed his finger at me like he did at the cafeteria and then winked. Chris turned to see what I was looking at and saw him.
"Who's that guy?"
"Oh. He's nobody. Just my lab partner."
"Oh. Okay then. I'll see you then."
"Yes. Definitely." I smiled.
Second day of school. I was in chemistry class and Josh was, well, being Josh. The teacher gave us a lab report to do.
After that period I went to the teacher's table and complained about Josh again.
"Sir, you don't understand. You can't expect me to work with him. Is there any way you could get me a new partner?"
"Excuse me, Martin. What seems to be the problem?" Josh steps into the scene.
"You, obviously." I snapped.
"I think I know exactly what you two need. You need to bond and you need cooperation." the teacher explains.
"We need to bond." I snorted. "But there is no cooperating with Josh. Can't you just get me a new partner?"
"I'm afraid I can't do that now Ms. Williams. Do you remember what I told you yesterday? I said try to make it work. You two just need some closure. That's all." the teacher says.
"Okay, Martin. We got that. That's what we'll do exactly." Josh says trying to piss me off.
"Ugh!" I sigh in defeat and walked out. Josh followed me out.
"Whoa there, partner. What's the rush?"
"Listen. If this is how it's going to be then you're gonna have to be agreeable. We have to finish that lab report before the due date. Got that? And don't piss me off. I really need good grades and if you don't help me get that then you're gonna have to face me."
"Okay. Just cool down. Martin said we needed closure and you're not really cooperating properly."
"Yeah, bonding, closure, whatever. Just work with me here, okay?"
"Fine. Whatever you say. Miss know-it-all control freak." he says muttering the last bit but audible enough for me to hear.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing." he smirked.
"Yeah. That's what I thought." I rolled my eyes. I walked away and went to my car and drove home.
The weekend arrived and I was looking for something to wear to the Brick. Somehow I knew that I had to look good for Chris. I never really cared that much about looking good. I usually just throw on what I could get my hands on first then I'm good to go but today I was a little more conscious about the way I look. I put on a yellow tank top and a pair of leggings. I put on some make-up then I'm good to go.
I waited outside my house for Dakotah and Carrie to pick me up. When they arrived I went to the backseat and greeted them.
"Are you sure Chris is gonna be there?" Carrie asked me.
"Oh he'll definitely be there." I say.
"Okay. Let's go." Dakotah started the car.
When we arrived there it was definitely how they described it. Campfire, dancing, loud music and everything.
"Whoa. This place is really cool." I say.
"Yep. This is where we go every weekend." Dakotah says.
"Nice." I went looking for Chris. I found him dancing with a bunch of other people. He stopped and walked over to me when he saw me."
"Hey, you made it." he says showing his signature dimples.
"So this is the Brick. Really nice place." I say staring at the lake.
"C'mon. I'll introduce you to some of the people here." He took my hand in his and introduced me to all these people. I met a lot of people and I was having a really great time with them. After that I danced with Chris. It felt liberating and it was fun. Chris then took my hand and we walked away from the crowd.
"So, Hayley. I was thinking maybe you could come to my place and we could watch a movie and hang out this Tuesday night."
"Uh yeah. Sure. Who else is gonna be there?"
"No one. Just you and me." My face went all red.
"Uh sure. Of course." I say, unsure of my answer.
"Great." He grinned. I giggled when he held my hand. It was getting late so I decided to go home. Carrie and Dakotah decided that as well and on the way to my house I told them that Chris asked me to come to his place.
"Oh my gosh! Hayley, you have got to be the luckiest girl on the planet." Dakotah exclaimed.
"I know. And he's so perfect." I gushed.
"Tell us how your date goes. Okay?"
"Yeah. I will." I went out of the car when Dakotah pulled up at our driveway.
"Bye," they said in unison.
It was the day before the due date of our lab report. I was looking for Josh at lunch time so we could do the lab report. I found him at the parking lot and he was walking fast to his car.
"Josh." I called, walking to him. He doesn't respond even though I was pretty sure he heard me.
"Josh wait!" I called again but he was so fast he went in his car.
"Josh. We have to do the lab report. It's due tomorrow." I said.
"That's correct, Williams but the question here is how are you and Chris Richardson, your boyfriend." He looked up at me. I laughed.
"He's not my boyfriend."
"Oh yes. He is." he smirked. I rolled my eyes. What? Is he jealous or something? Pssh. Yeah right. Like that could ever happen.
"You were at the Brick."
"No Williams. I wasn't." He started his car. "But you were."
"If you weren't then how would you know?" I said in a sing-song voice.
"Everybody goes to the brick." he simply said. I sighed.
"Are you gonna help me with the lab report or not?"
"Well if you could just get in here with me maybe we could work on it."
"No, Josh. I'm not going anywhere with you." I crossed my arms over my chest.
"C'mon Hayles. I can ride around this town with my eyes closed. It'll be fun."
"No." Then he started saying the details for the lab report, the formulas and everything while he slowly drives away. I, trying not to give in to his silly little act just stood there hoping that he'd get the message that I wasn't riding with him. But he didn't stop. He kept on muttering the scientific details for the lab report while slowly driving his car expacting me to go after him and ride with him.
"Josh wait!" I chased him. He stopped his car and I went to the passenger's seat. "I can't believe you're making me do this." I mutter.
